Books about Birds

Have you ever wanted to read a really great book about birds or one with a fun bird character in it? Well, you’re in luck, because we’ve got a few bird books to share with you.  These are just some out of the many that we have in the Children’s Department because just like there are a lot of types of birds, there are a lot of bird books!  We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sweet story about a baby robin growing up and learning how to fly.

A cat escapes from his home thinking he can catch a bird to eat for lunch, but all the birds he encounters are too smart and fast for him, leaving him with only “feathers for lunch.” Light-hearted and fun story that teaches about different types of birds.

A simple and beautiful fable about a bird that brings hope to a lonely mountain. Fabulous and colorful illustrations by Eric Carle add to the already great story.

Ellie is visited by different birds throughout the year. Teaches about both birds and seasons.

New Book: A Home for Bird

A new book that caught our attention recently is A Home for Bird written and illustrated by: Phillip C. Stead (E STEAD). This book made us smile and is one of our favorite children’s books of all time. It’s a simple story about a toad named Vernon who finds a new friend, a blue bird who is curiously silent.  Bird seems sad, but because he doesn’t communicate, Vernon doesn’t know why. He thinks it’s probably because he’s far away from home. Vernon is such a good friend to Bird that he makes it his mission to get Bird home! The location of Bird’s home is a fun and sweet surprise, so we won’t spoil it for you.  This book teaches about being a good and unconditional friend in a fresh way that no other book quite has. As always with new books, if it is not checked out, it will either be on the shelf (E STEAD) or on the new books display.

New Book: Just Ducks!

We just got a new book in called Just Ducks! by: Nicola Davies and illustrated by: Salvatore Rubbino (E DAVIES). It is an engaging and informative story with beautiful illustrations that tells children about mallard ducks through the eyes of the child narrator.  The book is relatable to any child who loves watching ducks and/or feeding them leftover bread.  Even a child who does not particularly like birds will learn something from this book because it describes birds in a kid-friendly and fun way.  As always with new books, if it is not checked out, it will either be on the shelf (E DAVIES) or on the new books display.
